What is XEDIS
XEDIS is XED’s product innovation behind hyper-customized learning journeys — a digital twin of real faculty, carrying their material, their voice and their likeness, built on fifty years of learning science.
The twin
Every answer is grounded in the faculty member’s own teaching — their frameworks, their cases, their slides — and cited back to it. XEDIS speaks from the professor’s corpus, not from the open internet.
A genuine twin — the professor’s presence, voice and manner, available in the learner’s own language and accent. Built with faculty, for faculty, never around them.
The professor stays the teacher. XEDIS carries their thinking into every interaction, every reflection, every follow-through conversation — and reports back what it learns.
Dimension one · The pedigree
That idea is simple to say and hard to build: learning is a conversation. Not a transmission, not a video, not a quiz — an iterative dialogue in which the learner’s own understanding is drawn out, tested and rebuilt. The lineage behind it spans two and a half millennia.
Teaching by question rather than assertion: expose the contradiction in what the learner believes, and let a stronger understanding replace it. The oldest and still the most demanding method in education.
The cybernetician who made dialogue rigorous. Pask held that intelligence arises from the dynamics of interaction — and that the true test of understanding is teachback: the learner explaining the concept in their own terms, not merely answering correctly.
Bloom found that students taught one-to-one performed two standard deviations better than students in conventional classrooms — then asked the question the field never solved: how do you deliver tutoring-grade attention at scale?
Building directly on Pask, Laurillard defined what a complete learning conversation requires: four activities — discursive, adaptive, interactive, reflective — operating as a closed loop. Her critique of education technology is that most of it supports one or two and quietly abandons the rest.
The theory came from giants. XED’s work was the part no one had done: packaging fifty years of conversation science into one working system — holistically, faithfully, at executive-education standard — to deliver hyper-customized learning journeys.
Laurillard’s four activities, each built into the architecture — not bolted on, and not simulated by a prompt.
Grounded Socratic dialogue with teachback — the answer arrives first, cited to faculty material, then the learner’s own thinking is drawn out and set beside it.
XEDIS weighs each learner’s prior ideas against the question at hand and adapts how a concept is framed — for this learner, in this moment.
Real assignments, evaluated intelligently. The activity most education technology omits entirely — the learner acts, and receives feedback on the action itself.
Evaluated work flows back into the learner’s portrait and idea store — so what you produced in module three shapes how the twin speaks to you in module five.
Dimension two · The engineering
The problem XEDIS solves is abstract — be a professor’s mind, for every learner, at once. Solving it took relentless engineering in places most platforms never think to look.
The retrieval engine is stateless and cites everything. It structurally cannot drift into invention — a property of the architecture, not a promise in a prompt.
Deciding whether your prior idea belongs in an answer runs as pure computation, in parallel with retrieval. You get a richer answer in the same breath — never a slower one.
Every captured idea is origin-tagged: what you originated versus what XEDIS surfaced to you. Months of accumulated thinking, and the system never confuses the two.
Chat, voice and the visual avatar drive one identical pipeline. Switch surfaces mid-thought — the twin knows exactly where you left off, because there is only one twin.
XEDIS notices where you are — a pre-read due, a concept ready to apply, momentum stalling — and initiates. A single dial, from off to chatty, keeps you in charge of the cadence.
Your context, initiatives, challenges and ideas — assembled from real interaction, never questionnaires — making every conversation more precisely yours than the last.
